Products for Veterinary Public Health
The purpose of the Veterinary Public Health group (formerly known as "Grandes Prophylaxies")
is to give global support to governmental Veterinary Services, non-governmental
organizations, veterinarians and farmer organizations in their effort to control
infectious animal diseases of major social and economic importance.
The fast growth and intensification of trade in the global livestock sector, climatic,
environmental and animal husbandry changes and a steadily increasing level of recreational
outdoor activities will inevitably lead to the emergence and re-emergence of infectious
animal diseases of unpredictable risk for human and animal health.
The control of infectious animal disease is ensured by:
- Developing, manufacturing and distributing vaccines against serious infectious animal
diseases such as Foot & Mouth Disease, Rabies, Bluetongue, Rinderpest, Contagious
Bovine Pleuropneumonia, Peste des Petits Ruminants, Blackleg and Anthrax.
- Building strategic reserves (antigen banks) for contingency plans
- Transferring technology to develop regional capacities
- Actively contributing to the development of effective innovative tools, strategies,
policies and regulations vital to controlling infectious diseases of public and
veterinary public health importance in developed and developing countries.
